Fall Decorating with Pumpkins

Fall Decorating with Pumpkins - Bitz & Giggles

Fall is just around the corner and I’m starting to think about how I want to decorate the outside of my home this year. Last year was all about dressing up my pumpkins and I plan to do more of that this year. One of the easiest ways to dress up your pumpkins are with decals and what I call “poke and push-ins.” I try to keep the pumpkins from rotting and getting soft for as long as possible so I can enjoy them from September until Mid-November. So, although we carve a couple with the kids, the decals and poke-ins seem to work really well because it keeps the pumpkin intact.

You can normally find decals at any craft store. I found mine at Michaels and the kids and I had fun putting them on the pumpkins. I can never pass up anything with bling so when I saw the spider in the web I knew I wasn’t leaving the store without it. If you’re a DIY’er, you could attempt the web on your own with some rhinestones and a glue gun.

The sign and pumpkin below were so much fun! I found the sign at Target. It’s battery-operated and flashes when you turn it on. So cool in the dark for the trick-or-treaters. I found the spider push-ins at Oriental Trading Company. These definitely were a hit with my 4 1/2 year old.

I ended up finding these fun glitter words in the Target dollar bin. I sure hope they have them again this year because it was so much fun decorating my stepping stones with them. Everyone who came to the door noticed them and the kids had fun switching them around. They even held up to the elements fairly well. I ended up tossing them after Halloween, but felt I got my money’s worth!

These poke-in animals are too much fun! It’s a great way to make your home look welcoming to trick-or-treaters without scaring the little ones. Here I used a combination of the decals and poke ins to make the pumpkins into cute trick-or-treater greeters! I scored these little guys from Terrysvillage.com a couple years ago.

A combination of pumpkins, gourds and mums will dress up any entry and it’s so much fun to try new things you haven’t done before. The front of my house always changes from year to year in the fall and I always look forward to this time of year even though it’s sad to say goodbye to those warm summer days. Enjoy decorating your home this autumn and don’t forget to come back and visit when I have my décor for this year ready to go!
