For the Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and trace a circle around the bottom of a 10″ pie pan. Invert the paper.
  3. In a large bowl, add cream of tartar to egg whites.
  4. Beat until soft peaks form.
  5. Add the sugar gradually, mixing it well until it dissolves.
  6. Continue mixing until glossy peaks form.
  7. Add the cornstarch and lemon juice.
  8. Spoon the meringue mixture carefully into the middle of the circle on the parchment paper.
  9. Spread out the meringue until it reaches the edges of the circle and use the back of a spoon to form a shallow well in the middle of the meringue.
  10. Bake 50-55 minutes or until meringue is set.
  11. Turn off oven with meringue still inside (do not open the door) and allow to set for 1 hour.
  12. Remove and cool on baking sheet.

For the Topping

  1. Beat the heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks form.
  2. Add the sugar.
  3. Carefully spread the whipped cream on top of the meringue, taking care not to break the cake.
  4. Gently add the berries.
