Baked Apple Donuts
Homemade fresh apple donuts, sprinkled with a crunchy cinnamon sugar. Baked, not fried and so delicious!

For the Donuts:
- 4 cups flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 4 tablespoons butter melted
- 2 eggs
- ¾ cup sugar
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup unsweetened apple sauce
- 1 ½ cup apples peeled, cored and grated
For the Topping:
- 4 tablespoons butter melted
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 ½ tablespoons ground cinnamon
Preheat oven to 375º Fahrenheit.
In a medium mixing bowl, add flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda and cinnamon. Whisk together.
In a separate large mixing bowl, add melted butter, eggs, sugar, buttermilk, nutmeg, and applesauce. Mix together until combined.
Stir in grated apples.
Next, add the dry ingredients and mix until dough is uniform.
Transfer dough into a large ziplock bag. Cut one of the bottom corners off.
Squeeze dough into a greased donut hole pan.
Bake for 12-14 minutes or until the donuts spring back when pressed lightly with your fingertip. Do not over bake or the donuts will be dry.
For the Topping:
To make the topping, mix the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
When donuts are done baking, allow them to cool for 5 minutes.
Brush each donut with melted butter.
Dip them into the sugar/cinnamon mixture and enjoy!
- Place your filling in a piping bag or a Ziplock bag with the tip snipped off to fill the donut pan.
- Don’t overfill your pan, only filling them about ¾.
- Store your donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days.
