- ½ cup water
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 ¼ cups milk
- 1 ½ cups heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ½ cup Kahlua
- Whipped cream optional
- Chocolate syrup optional
- Mini marshmallows optional
Add water, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt to a medium saucepan. Over medium heat, bring mixture to a rapid simmer while whisking continuously.
While continuing to whisk, add milk and heavy cream. Allow to cook until heated through.
Remove from heat and add vanilla and Kahlua. Stir until mixed.
Pour mixture into mugs, topping with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and mini marshmallows.
- I like to use Kahlua, Bailey’s Irish Cream, rum, vanilla vodka, bourbon or peppermint schnapps for this hot chocolate recipe.
- Feel free to add as much or as little liquor as you’d like.
- You can store leftovers in an airtight container, like a mason jar, and keep in the fridge.
