Mile High Chocolate Mousse Pie

Ingredients

  • 7 ounces milk chocolate chocolate chips or chocolate candy bar pieces
  • 1 ½ cups miniature marshmallows
  • ½ cup 2% milk
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 heaping tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 Pillsbury™ Refrigerated Pie Crust prepared according to instructions on box (make sure to cool)
  • Reddi-wip Extra Creamy Dairy Whipped Topping
  • Chocolate shavings for garnish optional

Instructions

  • In a heavy saucepan, heat the milk chocolate, marshmallows and milk over low heat until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth, stirring constantly.
  • Cool in the refrigerator for 25-30 minutes.
  • Place mixer bowl in freezer for at least 20 minutes to chill.
  • Pour heavy whipping cream, vanilla and sugar into mixer bowl and whisk on high speed until medium to stiff peaks form, about 1 minute (remember not to over beat).
  • Fold in whipped cream to cooled chocolate mixture.
  • Spoon into crust.
  • Refrigerate for at least 3 hours.

  1. Mousse Texture: Achieve a light and fluffy texture for your chocolate mousse by folding the whipped cream into the cooled chocolate mixture gently. Overmixing can deflate the whipped cream and result in a denser texture. Aim for a smooth and airy consistency to create that "mile-high" effect in your pie.
  2. Chilling Time: Allow the assembled pie to refrigerate for at least 3 hours before serving. This chilling time not only sets the mousse but also allows the flavors to meld together, resulting in a richer and more harmonious taste. For even better results, refrigerate overnight to ensure a firm and well-set pie.
  3. Pie Crust Preparation: For a crisp and flaky crust, follow the instructions on the Pillsbury™ Refrigerated Pie Crust package carefully. Make sure to pre-bake and cool the crust before adding the chocolate mousse filling. This step ensures that the crust stays firm and doesn't become soggy once the mousse is added.
