Rum & White Chocolate Hot Cocoa - a heavenly combination of white chocolate, rum, marshmallows, drizzles of chocolate and a big swirl of whipped cream topped with sprinkles is the ultimate fall indulgence!
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Don Q rum. All opinions are 100% mine.
If you've followed the blog for awhile you'll know that winter isn't my favorite season. In fact, it's my least favorite. I'm not a fan of the cold, and all the beautiful colors that once were, disappear after fall. I find that to keep myself happy and cheerful for the next few months, I really need to consciously focus on things I love and things to look forward to.
I try and immerse myself into the holiday season, plan get-togethers with friends and make delicious food and drinks to share with those closest to me, like this Rum & White Chocolate Hot Cocoa.
Let me tell you what - this is the ultimate indulgence - especially when you use an award-winning rum like Don Q Gran Añejo, produced by Destilería Serrallés, the only rum company that uses aged rum in all of their rum products, including their flavors, in which they only use natural flavorings.
Gran Añejo is meant to be a sipping rum with a deep complex nose of molasses, cigar tobacco and dark caramel. It's delightfully smooth and lush with pronounced notes of vanilla, cinnamon and honey.
Pretty heavenly and perfect to be enjoyed neat on the rocks. To mix it into hot cocoa some would say is a travesty, but I'm telling you. . .it's far from a travesty, it's a dream.
When combined with white chocolate, marshmallows, drizzles of chocolate and a big swirl of whipped cream topped with sprinkles, it becomes the ultimate indulgence to be enjoyed with friends.
Gather around the fire, enjoy it after dinner or share it with family and friends during the holidays.
It's sure to become a new tradition.

Rum & White Chocolate Hot Cocoa
Ingredients
- 1 cup white chocolate chips
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 4 cups white milk (skim or 2%)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1-2 tablespoons Don Q Gran Añejo Rum
- Mini marshmallows (chocolate syrup, whipped cream and sprinkles for garnish (optional))
Instructions
- In a saucepan combine the white chocolate chips and the heavy cream over medium-high heat stirring constantly until the white chips are melted.
- Add the milk and the vanilla extract. Stir until combined and warm.
- Add the rum right before serving.
- Top off mugs with mini marshmallows, chocolate syrup, whipped cream and sprinkles.
Notes
- Watch the Heat: When melting the white chocolate chips and heavy cream, be sure to keep an eye on the heat. White chocolate can scorch easily, so stir constantly and adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning.
- Add Rum Just Before Serving: To preserve the flavor of the rum and prevent it from evaporating, add it to the hot cocoa right before serving. This ensures that the rum's distinct taste remains prominent and doesn't dissipate during the cooking process.
- Get Creative with Garnishes: While optional, garnishes like mini marshmallows, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and sprinkles can elevate the presentation and flavor of the hot cocoa. Feel free to experiment with different toppings to suit your taste preferences and make your drink even more indulgent.
