Today I'm featuring more springy, Easter fun! These Krispy Confetti Eggs are ooey, gooey and oh so yummy! What's the best part about these eggs? The surprise INSIDE, of course! Here's what you'll need to make your own!
Ingredients & Materials
- 12 plastic Easter eggs
- 10 oz. mini marshmallows
- 6 cups Rice Krispies
- Small chocolate or malted milk eggs
- Confetti sprinkles
- 4 tablespoons butter
We're starting out with the most important part of the tutorial. Wash your eggs. Wash them good, people. You're going to prepare food in these eggs. Check out this cute little draining basket I found at IKEA. It fits the length of my sink and I use it for all of those little things I hand wash and need to dry out real quick - from medicine droppers and nuks to teething rings and little toys.
After the eggs have been washed and dried, lay out a towel on the table and lightly spray the insides of your eggs with nonstick cooking spray. And if you're like me, keep the can close by because you're going to want to spray more on your hands later when you start working with the treat ingredients.
Start out by tossing your butter and marshmallows into a microwave safe bowl. You can also do this part on the stove top. Heat until the butter and marshmallows are melted. Add your Rice Krispies to the bowl, shake in some happy, pretty sprinkles and mix everything together.
Now take a spoon and spray it with the nonstick spray. While you're at it, go ahead and spray your hands, too. Why not.
Did I mention that this is a super fun treat to make with the kiddos? My 5-year-old was all about helping stuff. . . one egg. Which never made it all the way through the process, by the way. After he got what he wanted (along with a glass of water) he fled the scene. It wasn't because he didn't have fun. It's because he's five. He's going 800 miles an hour all day, every day. If only I had energy like that boy.
After you've stuffed the eggs, let them sit for only 5-8 minutes or so. They tend to mold to the egg shape pretty fast. Open up the plastic egg, and you'll have one of these. Just for good measure, shake a few more sprinkles over the top. For the kids, of course. Of course. Transfer them to a covered pan or Ziploc bag once they've cooled to keep them fresh.
Aren't they super fun? And don't forget, the best part is right there in the middle. Oh, who am I kidding? It's all good. I promise.
Honestly, I think even Peter Cottontail would approve of these, and you will too! Have a hippity, hoppity, happy When-ens-day {that's Wednesday with three syllables so it fits the song).
