I don't like grimy faucets. I really don't like grimy anything. . .especially in the bathroom. I'm kind of a clean freak. I feel like I've loosened up a bit since having children, but I still have a ways to go. The voices in my head tell me it's ok though, so I'm at peace with that.
In my house, my husband gets the master bathroom all to himself. I get up earliest in the morning so I use the guest bathroom. We've always just done it that way. He doesn't have to hear me getting ready in the morning and I have an entire bathroom to pack full of all of my "stuff." Sounds great, right? Well, here's where we run into problems: the kids use the guest bathroom, too.
More often than not when my kids wash their hands, they never rinse all of the soap off completely, so when they go to turn off the faucet, it ends up looking like this.
And when it looks like that, I usually grab a Clorox wipe. However, when I want to do a deep cleaning before guests visit the house, I grab a bottle of baby oil.
Just look at that soap scum. All I want that faucet to do is shine. Is that too much to ask?
I dab a little baby oil onto a paper towel and start applying it to the faucet. Once you put a nice coating of the oil over the whole faucet, find a dry and clean area on your paper towel and buff it until it shines.
If you want to get really fancy, get some waxed paper from the kitchen and rub the faucet with it. It will reduce future water marks to keep it shining longer. Will it hold up against soap scum? No. Water marks? Yes.
Ahh, now this is what I like to see. I sat in the bathroom for a few minutes that day just to enjoy it. Then, I heard the pitter patter of little feet running towards the door and I knew it was all over. I closed my eyes and paused for just another second. The voices in my head told me it was ok. So, I headed out the door as my 5-year-old ran in and I never looked back. Sometimes, it's best that way.
