I've been trying to keep some healthier snacks around the house. And let me tell you what. . .it's not always easy to get rid of the Oreos, ice cream and chips.
I'm finding that as long as I "prep" on Sunday for the week ahead, it makes healthier choices so much easier. And not just for me. . .for my whole family.
So, today, we're making Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs.
Let me tell you what. . .this is the EASIEST way to hard boil eggs that I've found so far. AND. . .with Easter right around the corner, my air fryer is going to make my life so much easier!
How to Air Fry Eggs
Grab a dozen eggs and gently place them into the air fryer basket.
In just 16 minutes, they'll be ready for their ice bath.
The Ice Bath
If you're not familiar with what an ice bath is, it's essentially a bowl filled with cold water and ice.
The ice bath cools the eggs and stops the cooking process. It also causes the egg to contract and pull away from the shell, making it easier to peel.
These air fryer hard boiled eggs were some of the easiest ever to peel.
And just look at that beautiful yellow yolk! No green discoloration from being cooked too long or at too high of temperature.
Using an air fryer to hard boil eggs makes you never want to go back to a big pot of boiling water.
If you own an air fryer, grab a dozen eggs, AND DO THIS! If you don't own an air fryer yet, I really recommend you thinking about purchasing one.
It's really changed the way I get meals on the table at our house and I know it will do the same for you!
Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs
Ingredients
- 12 large eggs
Instructions
- Place eggs gently in air fryer basket.
- Set temperature to 250º Fahrenheit for 16 minutes.
- Transfer eggs immediately to an ice bath for 5 minutes.
- Remove from water to dry.
Notes
- Choose the Right Eggs: For best results, use eggs that are at least a few days old. Fresher eggs can be more difficult to peel after cooking. If possible, let the eggs sit at room temperature for about 10–15 minutes before placing them in the air fryer. This can help prevent cracking during cooking.
- Experiment with Cooking Time: Cooking times can vary depending on the size and model of your air fryer, as well as your personal preference for yolk texture. Start with the recommended 16 minutes at 250 °F, but feel free to adjust the cooking time slightly to achieve your desired level of doneness. You may want to try a test batch to find the perfect cooking time for your specific air fryer.
- Shock in Ice Water: Transferring the cooked eggs to an ice bath immediately after cooking is crucial for stopping the cooking process and preventing the eggs from overcooking. This also helps shrink the egg whites slightly, making them easier to peel. Make sure the ice water bath is ready before the eggs finish cooking so you can transfer them quickly. After 5 minutes in the ice bath, gently tap each egg on a hard surface to crack the shell, then peel under running water for easier peeling.

I tried this with just two eggs to start with. I have never made hard boiled eggs that looked and tasted so perfect! Thank you!
Sara
So glad they turned out for you!
Mickey
My Air Fryer won't g below 300 F. What model are you using?
Sara
I have the PowerXL.
Ade
Will definitely try this. Quick question. Your instructions above didn’t mention if you preheated your air fryer or not. If I preheat my air fryer, should the cook time still be 16 mins?
Thanks so much!
Sara
I usually don't preheat the air fryer for hard boiled eggs. I would follow the instructions as written without preheating.
Anna
These eggs were so easy to make and turned out perfectly!!!
Sara
I'm so glad, Anna!
Debbie
I used only 6 eggs and set for 20 minutes because checked one at 16 minutes and not done! 20 minutes was fine and they were good!!!!
Barbara
How long for two eggs
Sara
The timing will be the same no matter how many eggs you are hard boiling.
Judy
Use air fryer setting or the baking setting?
Sara
Air fryer setting. My air fryer doesn't have a bake setting.
Jessica
When using the air fry setting my temp doesn't go below 300°
Deb
I have an air fryer oven. I assume I just place the eggs on the racks and cook for 16 minutes? Right now I do them in my regular oven for 27 minutes and then the ice bath. They peel like a dream this way too, but if I can do it in shorter time, great!
Sara
On the racks should be just fine. I don't have an oven type air fryer but I can't imagine it would be very different. Let me know how they turn out!
D Hopkins
Such a great idea and so much easier than steaming or boiling. My 1st try the eggs didn’t get cooked enough. I’d recommend testing one before putting all in the ice bath. Next time I’ll cook longer than 16 minutes.
Sara
It also may make a difference if you're preheating your air fryer or not. If you try preheating for 5 minutes or so before putting your eggs in, the timing should be pretty close to 16 minutes. Glad you're experimenting and enjoying your air fryer!
Cheryl
Do you preheat the air fryer first or just put the eggs in and set to the temp you said and cook?
Sara
I normally will preheat my air fryer for 3-5 minutes before everything I make. So, yes, go ahead and preheat just to be safe. All air fryers may not cook the same.
Sharon
What Setting are you using on your air fryer?
Sara
250º Fahrenheit for 16 minutes.

The eggs at room temperature or are they directly out of fridge?
Sara
I've done both and they turn out great either way!

i recently bought a ninja air fryer af100. i love it except when it comes to hard boiled eggs. 98% of the eggs have been a mess to peel. the shell sticks and pulls the egg apart. i have tried soaking them in water with baking soda before cooking them; didn't help. i always place them in an ice bath after cooking them but did not help. i have used fresh eggs and not so fresh eggs. it did not seem to matter. i tried different temps other than the recommend 250but did not help. i'll be going back to my old method.
Sara
It sounds like you've done your homework on hard boiled eggs and air fryers, Rod. You seem to be doing everything correctly. My only recommendation if you try again is to try and peel them this time under cool running water. Let me know if it makes a difference!
Anna
You don’t need to add water to the bottom of air fryer pan? I’m going to try.
Sara
No, there's no water needed when you air fry.
DeLores Vasey
I did a dozen extra large eggs and the first one I crack was not done so I but them in water bath to make sure the rest was cooked. Next time I think I will try for 20 minutes of cooking time.
Sara
Every air fryer can cook a bit differently. I hope your next batch turns out!
Wendy Hanks
DeLores Vasey, I used extra large eggs too, and did not get perfect yolks. They weren't runny, but they were definitely not as cooked as I normally like. Did you try again for 20 minutes and get better results?
MKennedy
It said large eggs not extra large
Gary W Cornett
I tried this recipe with 3 eggs and then a dozen and they turned out great, easy to peel.
Sara
So glad to hear it worked well for you, Gary!

Can you use a stand up air fryer that doesn't have a basket
Sara
I would think so, yes!
Charles F Hesser Jr
Can you do 6 eggs instead of 12
Sara
Yes, of course!
