Remember a couple weeks ago when I shared this delicious white chocolate hot cocoa? Well, if you thought that was delicious, you're going to love the Hot Buttered Rum cocktail I'm sharing today!
My favorite way to make this drink is with Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced Rum and milk.
Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced is an extraordinary blend of rums aged at least 3 years in American white oak barrels. The rum has warm, radiant, rich, golden hues and a medium to heavy texture and features warm kitchen spices like vanilla, cinnamon and caramel that slowly give way to oaky notes and a touch of toasted coffee - a flavor profile that envelops your palate and warms your heart and soul.
It's the perfect addition to this drink. With the holidays just around the corner, I dress up the buttered rum even more by rimming the glass with white candy shred.
It gives the glass a beautiful snow-like appearance that I absolutely love.
So many buttered rum recipes call for a batter that you need to make beforehand. This recipe doesn't require a pre-made batter - just a few simple ingredients like butter, milk, rum and spices.
It's the perfect cocktail to serve around the holidays and warms you up wonderfully from the very first sip.
To make the rum even more creamy, I use milk, rather than water like you'll find in a traditional recipe. I garnish with a cinnamon stick and a sprinkle of cinnamon right before I serve these up to guests.
Prepare for the oohs and ahhs when you serve up this hot buttered rum.
Your guests will remember this drink long after the holidays. What are some of your favorite drinks to serve during the holidays? I'd love for you to share your ideas in the comments!
Hot Buttered Rum
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon butter (softened)
- 1 ½ teaspoons powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 shot (1.5 ounces Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced Rum)
- Pinch of nutmeg
- Pinch of cinnamon
- 1 cup milk (warmed)
- Cinnamon sticks and extra cinnamon (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a small bowl combine butter and sugars and transfer to mug.
- Add milk to mug along with rum and spices; stir to combine.
- Garnish with a cinnamon stick and sprinkle of cinnamon on top.
Notes
- Butter Blend: Create a rich and flavorful base by thoroughly mixing softened butter with powdered sugar and brown sugar. This blend not only adds sweetness but also enhances the creamy texture of the hot buttered rum. Ensure the butter is at room temperature for easy mixing and incorporation into the drink.
- Spice Infusion: Elevate the flavor profile of your hot buttered rum by adding a pinch of nutmeg and cinnamon. These warming spices complement the sweetness of the drink and provide a comforting aroma. Adjust the amount of spices to suit your personal taste preferences, but be cautious not to overpower the delicate flavors of the rum and milk.
- Temperature Control: Warm the milk before adding it to the mug to ensure a cozy and comforting beverage. Avoid boiling the milk to prevent scalding or curdling. Instead, gently heat the milk on the stovetop or in the microwave until it reaches a warm, but not boiling, temperature. This step helps to meld the flavors together and creates a soothing drink perfect for cold evenings. Additionally, consider serving the hot buttered rum in pre-warmed mugs to maintain its temperature for longer enjoyment.
