Ingredients
- 8 tablespoons butter (1 stick - softened)
- 5 cups powdered sugar
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Mix the softened butter with 2 cups of the powdered sugar.
- Add the milk and vanilla and beat until smooth.
- Beat of medium speed in your electric mixer until smooth.
- Continue to add powdered sugar until the frosting reaches the consistency you want.
Notes
- Gradual Sugar Addition: Incorporate the powdered sugar gradually to achieve the desired consistency and avoid clumps in the frosting. Begin by mixing the softened butter with a portion of the powdered sugar, then gradually add more as needed until the frosting reaches the desired thickness. This approach allows for better control over the frosting's texture.
- Milk and Vanilla Incorporation: Add the milk and vanilla extract slowly while mixing to ensure they are evenly distributed throughout the frosting. This helps prevent the frosting from becoming too thin or too thick and ensures a smooth and creamy texture. Adjust the amount of milk based on personal preference for frosting consistency.
- Testing for Consistency: Test the consistency of the frosting as you add the powdered sugar. Stop adding sugar when the frosting reaches the desired thickness for spreading or piping. Keep in mind that the amount of powdered sugar needed may vary depending on factors such as humidity and temperature. If the frosting becomes too thick, you can add a small amount of milk to thin it out, or if it's too thin, add more powdered sugar to thicken it.
