Halloween is definitely one of my favorite holidays. I don't like the bloody, gory Halloween stuff though. I like the cute and eerie stuff. I've tried to watch the Halloween Baking Championship on the Food Network, and even though I know whatever they're making probably tastes good, I'm too grossed out by how it all looks. Who's with me? Anyone?

ANYWAY. . .today we're making Spooky Halloween Punch. It's a simple drink to make and only requires three ingredients!

    Preparing the Punch

All you need to make the drink is grape juice, pineapple juice and lemon-lime soda. This punch is meant to be made by the glass but I've also included instructions for making a punch bowl full if you'd like to go that route.

If you make a big punch bowl full, you could just "rim" the serving glasses you plan to use. What do I mean by "rim" you ask?

It's easy. Apply some corn syrup to the rim of the glass and move the glass around a bit in a small bowl of nonpareils.

Some of the nonpareils may begin to float on the top of the drink. That's what you want! They create a little white foam on top of the drink.

AND. . .when the black nonpareils around the rim of the glass begin to "melt," they begin to create eerie black streaks that drip down into the punch.

So, it's VERY important that the nonpareil mix you purchase contains black nonpareils or you won't get this effect. The more black nonpareils that melt into the punch, the darker the punch gets also.

Isn't that fun? Another idea is to rim the glass with whatever color of nonpareils you would like and just buy a container of black nonpareils to sprinkle into the punch when you're ready to serve!

Have fun with this punch! Grab the kiddos and start "experimenting" this month!

    Ingredients

    • Corn syrup
    • Halloween-colored nonpareils
    • 10 ounces grape juice (I used small bottles of Welch's)
    • 6 ounces pineapple juice (I used small cans of Dole)
    • Lemon-lime soda (I used Sprite)

    Instructions

    • Rim each glass with corn syrup.
    • Pour some nonpareils into a small dish.
    • Place the top of each corn syrup-rimmed glass into the dish of nonpareils.
    • Fill each glass ⅓ of the way with grape juice.
    • Add 2 ounces of pineapple juice to each glass.
    • Top with lemon-lime soda.

    Notes

    1. Ghoulish Glass Rims: To create a spooky effect, rim the glasses with corn syrup and dip them into Halloween-colored nonpareils. This adds a festive touch and enhances the Halloween theme of the punch. Make sure to use a variety of colors to make the punch even more visually appealing.
    2. Layered Flavors: Layering the grape juice, pineapple juice, and lemon-lime soda creates a visually striking effect in the glass. Ensure each layer is distinct by pouring them gently over the back of a spoon or by using a pourer. This technique not only adds to the presentation but also allows each flavor to shine through, giving the punch a delicious complexity.
    3. Chilling Effect: For an extra chilling effect, chill all the ingredients beforehand, including the juices and soda. Serve the punch over ice to keep it cold and refreshing throughout your Halloween celebration. Additionally, consider freezing some Halloween-themed ice cubes, such as cubes with plastic spiders or gummy worms, to add a creepy touch to the punch.
