HOW TO MAKE COTTON CANDY ICE CREAM
To make this homemade, no-churn ice cream, you'll need:
- Heavy whipping cream
- Sweetened condensed milk
- Cotton candy flavoring
- Blue food coloring
- Pink food coloring
- Sprinkles of your choice
After you’ve gathered your ingredients, get ready to make this delicious treat right at home! Just follow the simple steps below!
MAKING THE ICE CREAM
- Place heavy whipping cream in a large mixing bowl. Beat with a hand mixer until peaks form.
- Slowly pour in sweetened condensed milk. Beat again until mixture is smooth.
- Add cotton candy flavoring and mix again.
- Split the mixture into three equal bowls. Leave one bowl white. Add blue food coloring to another bowl and pink to another. Mix until desired colors are reached.
PREPPING AND FREEZING THE ICE CREAM
- Using a spoon, add spoonfuls of each color to a pan (I used a glass bread pan). Gently shake after each layer.
- When all ice cream is in the pan, use a knife to swirl the colors together.
- Add sprinkles evenly over top.
- Freeze for 5-6 hours before serving.
WHERE CAN I GET COTTON CANDY FLAVORING?
I got my cotton candy flavoring from Amazon, but it usually can be found at some retail and specialty stores like Walmart, Michaels, and Hobby Lobby, as well.
WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE HEAVY WHIPPING CREAM?
If you don’t have heavy whipping cream, don’t fret. You still can make the ice cream.
All you need to do is combine ⅓ cup of melted butter with ⅔ cup of whole milk and mix thoroughly to make 1 cup of heavy cream.
DOES HOMEMADE ICE CREAM MELT FAST?
Homemade ice cream does melt quicker than store-bought. It's much softer, so keep that in mind when you're planning out where to serve and enjoy it.
COULD I USE THIS ICE CREAM TO MAKE A MILKSHAKE?
Absolutely! Just scoop some ice cream into a tall cup, add a bit of milk and mix well with a spoon. Add more milk until you reach the consistency you want.
HOW DO YOU STORE COTTON CANDY ICE CREAM?
First, make sure that the container you're going to freeze the ice cream in is airtight. Then, wrap the container in a layer of plastic wrap or aluminum foil. This will help to prevent freezer burn and keep the ice cream fresh longer.
When you're ready to enjoy the ice cream, simply remove it from the freezer and allow it to thaw for about 20 minutes before scooping.
