It features all of the classic flavors of a dill pickle - cucumbers, vinegar, garlic, and dill - blended into a delicious, creamy pasta salad. The best part about this dish is that it can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge for up to a week.
HOW TO MAKE DILL PICKLE PASTA SALAD
Before you get started, make sure you have the following ingredients:
- Shell pasta
- Dill pickles
- Cheddar cheese
- White onion
- Fresh dill
- Pickle juice
- Miracle whip
- Sour cream
- Cayenne pepper
- Salt
- Pepper
Once you’ve gathered all your ingredients, follow the steps below for a quick and easy summertime side dish.
- Pour ½ cup of pickle juice over the prepared pasta. Allow it to sit and absorb for 5-minutes, stirring frequently.
- Add your sliced pickles, cubed cheddar cheese, onion, and dill. Stir everything together.
- In a small bowl, whip the Miracle whip, sour cream, cayenne pepper, salt, pepper, and ¼ cup of pickle juice together.
- Pour the Miracle whip sauce over the pasta. Stir until everything is combined.

WHAT OTHER PASTA COULD BE USED IN THE SALAD?
You can use any type of pasta for this salad, but shells tend to work best because they'll hold onto the creamy dressing. If you aren't able to get your hands on shell pasta, you could also use macaroni, rotini, fusilli, or another pasta.
HOW TO STORE DILL PICKLE PASTA SALAD
If you're making the salad ahead of time, store it in the refrigerator in an airtight container. Before serving, let the salad come to room temperature so that the flavors can meld together.
If you're taking the salad to a potluck or picnic, keep it chilled in a cooler until you're ready to serve.

Ingredients
- 16 ounces shell pasta (prepared according to box directions)
- 1 cup sliced dill pickles
- 1 cup cubed cheddar cheese (I used Colby)
- ¼ cup diced white onion
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill
- ¾ cup pickle juice (divided)
- ⅔ cup Miracle Whip
- ⅓ cup sour cream
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
Instructions
- Pour ½ cup pickle juice over prepared pasta. Allow to sit and absorb for 5 minutes. Stir frequently.
- Add sliced pickles, subbed cheddar cheese, onion, and dill. Stir together.
- In a small bowl, prepare sauce by combining Miracle Whip, sour cream, cayenne pepper, salt, pepper, and ¼ cup pickle juice.
- Pour sauce over pasta mixture. Stir until everything is combined.
Notes
- Add in crumbled bacon, hard-boiled eggs, shredded cheese or diced tomatoes.
- Get creative with the pasta that you use! Try using rotini, fusilli, macaroni or shells.
