TIPS FOR MAKING A PATRIOTIC TRIFLE DESSERT
- Be sure to use fresh fruit rather than frozen. Frozen berries can be mushy and are not as easy to arrange in the trifle.
- To spice up the recipe a little bit, glaze the cake cubes with some tangy lemon curd.
- If you want to decorate the top of the trifle into a fun design, try using a star-shaped cookie cutter and placing the berries inside. Then, remove the cookie cutter and you’ll be left with an impressive design!
WHAT OTHER TYPES OF CAKE COULD I USE?
If you don’t want to use angel food cake, pound cake is another great option.
Some people prefer the light sponginess of angel cake and feel that it layers better, but both cakes will taste great with this recipe! You can also make a homemade cake if you choose!
CAN YOU MAKE THIS PATRIOTIC TRIFLE AHEAD OF TIME?
One thing that makes this recipe so great is that it can be made up to a day ahead of time! Just make the trifle and store it in the fridge until ready to serve!
HOW TO STORE LEFTOVER TRIFLE DESSERT
You can store this patriotic berry trifle in the refrigerator, but due to the addition of fresh fruit, it will only keep for a couple of days. So, eat it up quickly!
