The 4th of July is just a week away and let me tell you what. . .I'm just super excited for it. We're headed up north to the cabin to spend a few days with family and friends and have a good ole' time swimming in the lake, grilling out and roasting marshmallows! S'mores are one of our favorite treats up north and, over the years, we've made them all sorts of different ways! Frozen, oven-baked. . .as a milkshake. . .
If you like experimenting with s'mores like I do, you're really going to enjoy these easy Caramel Apple S'mores.
Imagine the sweetness of caramel and marshmallow combined with the tartness and crunch of a granny smith apple. It's super delicious and so very easy. I'll admit that I'm a little embarrassed sharing such a simple recipe with you all, but from all of the emails and messages I receive from my readers, it sounds like it's right on point with the kind of recipes you're looking for. That's why we get along so well. 😉
It's a good idea to core the slices. The toasted marshmallows plug the holes so nicely, making the perfect bed for the caramel candies!
Now, you can make these caramel apple s'mores with caramel candies or caramel syrup. When we're sitting around the campfire, I tend to make them with the caramel candies because they're easier to eat like a sandwich. If I'm roasting my marshmallows at home in the broiler, like I did when I made these delicious campfire cones, I'll often just drizzle some caramel syrup over it all and eat them that way.
I think it adds a bit of whimsy to serve these s'mores with the top of the apple still intact. I will admit when I make them with the caramel syrup, I use a fork and a knife. . .most of the time. I have been known to just pick them up and take a big bite out of them, too.
Whatever way you decide to eat these caramel apple s'mores. . .enjoy. You deserve so much more than just a toasted marshmallow. 😉
Caramel Apple S'mores
Ingredients
- 2 thin slices of a Granny Smith apple (core removed)
- 2 marshmallows (toasted)
- Caramel candies or caramel syrup (I used syrup)
Instructions
- Place two toasted marshmallows inside of two slices of apple.
- Drizzle with caramel syrup or add melted caramel (see note about roasting).
Notes
- Selecting the Right Apples: Opt for Granny Smith apples for their tartness and firm texture, which complement the sweetness of the caramel and marshmallows. The acidity of Granny Smith apples helps balance the overall flavor profile of the dessert. Ensure the apple slices are thin enough to easily hold the toasted marshmallows without breaking.
- Toasting Marshmallows: Toast the marshmallows until they are golden brown and gooey on the inside. You can achieve this by roasting them over an open flame, using a kitchen torch, or broiling them in the oven. Toasting the marshmallows enhances their flavor and creates a delightful contrast with the crispness of the apple slices.
- Caramel Application: Drizzle the caramel syrup over the toasted marshmallows and apple slices for a quick and easy caramel apple s'more. Alternatively, melt caramel candies in a saucepan over low heat until smooth and pourable, then drizzle the melted caramel over the marshmallows and apples. Ensure the caramel is warm enough to flow smoothly but not too hot to avoid burning yourself or the ingredients.
