So, how about I share one more apple recipe before we get into some Halloween fun this month?! In the past couple weeks, I shared recipes for Baked Apple Donuts and Air Fryer Apple Fries with Caramel Dip. Both recipes are delicious and perfect for apple-picking season!
This Apple Cinnamon Fritter Bread is a soft, buttery vanilla cake loaf with chunks of juicy apples and a brown sugar and cinnamon swirl throughout.
It's the perfect way to welcome in the month of October!
Ready to make a loaf of this amazing bread? Yes? Then, let's get to it!
HOW TO MAKE APPLE CINNAMON FRITTER BREAD
To make this sweet and easy apple cinnamon fritter bread, you'll need:
- Brown sugar
- Ground cinnamon
- Granny Smith apples
- Sugar
- Butter
- Eggs
- Vanilla extract
- Flour
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Milk
- Powdered sugar
In a small bowl, go ahead and combine the brown sugar and one teaspoon of the cinnamon - then set it aside.
Next, grab another bowl and add the chopped apples. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of sugar and the other teaspoon of cinnamon over top. Stir until the apples are well-coated. And set that aside.
In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and ⅔ cup of the sugar together until it's fluffy.
Add the eggs and vanilla, and beat again until smooth.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Pour the flour mixture into the batter and beat.
Add ½ cup milk and mix the batter until it is uniform throughout.
Pour half of the batter into the prepared bread pan.
Sprinkle half of the apples over top of batter.
And then sprinkle on half of the brown sugar/cinnamon mixture.
Pour the remaining batter over top. . .
Add the remaining apples. . .
And top with the remaining brown sugar/cinnamon mixture.
Now, bake for 1 hour or until a toothpick comes out clean. You'll want to allow the bread to rest at least 15 minutes before removing from the pan.
While the bread cools, you can prepare the glaze. Mix the powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon milk in a small bowl.
Slowly add more milk until the glaze reaches your desired consistency.
Now, drizzle the icing over top of bread. . . and serve.
Don't you want to dig right in?
WHAT KIND OF APPLES SHOULD BE USED FOR FRITTER BREAD?
I normally use Granny Smith apples because they have a nice balance between tart and sweet. They're also a firmer apple that holds up well to baking.
You could also try any of the following:
- Piñata
- Pink Lady
- Gala
- Honeycrisp
- Fuji
- Braeburn
HOW LONG DOES APPLE FRITTER BREAD LAST?
Well, it depends how you store it. If you wrap it well with foil or plastic wrap and place it in a plastic bag in the fridge, it will keep for about a week.
If you store the bread at room temperature, instead of the fridge, it will last 1-3 days. Although the bread disappears quickly in our home, I still try to keep it as fresh as possible by storing it in the fridge.
DOES APPLE FRITTER BREAD FREEZE WELL?
It does! Allow the bread to cool completely and then wrap the bread tightly in aluminum foil or parchment paper and place in a freezer bag.
The bread will keep for up to six months in the freezer, but after about the first month, the bread will begin to lose flavor - so don't keep it in there too long!
HOW DO YOU THAW FRITTER BREAD THAT HAS BEEN FROZEN?
To thaw a loaf of frozen bread, take it out of the freezer and allow it to reach room temperature without removing the foil or parchment paper it is wrapped in. The wrapping will keep the bread moist while it thaws.

I bake for my Bible Study Group each week. They loved it & said it was their favourite snack so far.

If making this for a larger group, could the recipe be doubled and baked in a 13x9" pan for less time?
Sara
I've never tried making bread in a cake pan. You could try or you could wait until this Friday (1/13) when I'll be posting the recipe for Apple Fritter Cake!

This recipe is amazing! I made it gluten free by substituting the flour and it still came out wonderful! Thank you!

I’ve made this yummy bread twice now - the first time following the instructions to the letter. While very good, the upper 2/3rd of the loaf was just bread after the apples sink and we found ourselves wanting a bit more even mix and a little more flavor in the bread. So second time I made a few tweaks. I added a tsp of chai seasoning to the batter (whisked in with the flour) and used unsweetened vanilla almond milk in place of regular milk. Then I used roughly 2/3rd of the batter in the first layer. After I added the last layer of apple and cinnamon sugar, I used a knife to swirl the topping into the batter, leaving some on top still. This loaf came out looking more like the pictures in the blog with apples swirled into the bread vs all sitting on top, and we got yummy sweet apple with each bite. The chai complimented the apples well, but just swirling the top layer made the biggest difference. I look forward to making this many more times!
