Looking for the perfect dish to bring to your next Memorial Day or Fourth of July cookout? This easy, festive taco dip will be the hit of the party!
Sometimes when you get invited to a BBQ and want to bring a dish to pass, it can be difficult to figure out exactly what to bring. What would everyone like? And if you have your hands full with work and kids, you also don’t want to make something too time-consuming or complicated.
This dip is great because it’s easy to make and so delicious! It’s the perfect dish for a crowd, and guests are going to love the way the ingredients are arranged in the shape of the American flag.
I mean, who doesn't love a good red, white and "blue" theme?! 🇺🇸
HOW TO MAKE PATRIOTIC TACO DIP
To make this red, white and blue dip, you'll need:
- Refried beans
- Taco seasoning
- Sour cream
- Mozzarella cheese
- Tomatoes
- Black olives
Ready to get started? Here we go!
In a bowl, combine the refried beans and taco seasoning.
You can use a seasoning packet or you can use homemade taco seasoning as well! Both are great options for this taco dip.
In a 9x13” baking dish, start layering your ingredients. Spread the bean mixture along the bottom of the dish.
I suggest using a silicone spatula for this step so that you can easily spread the bean mixture.
Continue layering your ingredients by spreading a layer of guacamole on top of the bean mixture. You will want to do this gently so that you don’t totally combine the two layers.
Make the sour cream layer by spreading a layer of sour cream on top of the guacamole layer. Again, be careful not to combine the layers.
Use the remaining ingredients to create a flag pattern on top of the sour cream layer.
Use the diced tomatoes for the red stripes and the mozzarella cheese for the white stripes.
You'll use the black olives for the "blue" stars.
This would be the perfect time to have the kids help decorate the flag! It’s fun to see their creative sides come out.
Cover the dip and place in the refrigerator to allow it to settle for at least an hour before serving.
This helps firm up the layers and allows the flavors to meld together too.
WHAT TYPE OF REFRIED BEANS DO I NEED?
You can use refried beans from a can, or you can use homemade if you know how to make them!
Homemade refried beans are easier to make than you think! If you have the extra time, homemade refried beans would make this dish even more flavorful.
CAN I USE HOMEMADE GUACAMOLE?
Of course! A lot of the best guacamole is homemade and a homemade guacamole could really make this dip even more amazing!
Premade guacamole will work fine too! You can’t go wrong with either.
WHAT ELSE CAN I ADD TO THE TACO LAYER DIP?
Sometimes I love to layer in some salsa and diced onions. You could also try some bell pepper, lettuce, cooked shredded chicken or ground beef.
HOW DO I STORE LEFTOVERS?
If you still have some of this delicious dip left, you can store it by putting plastic wrap on the dish and store it in the refrigerator.
It will keep for a couple days. It is best to eat this dip within the first day or two of making it, though. The layers will get a bit watery if not eaten right away.
