Only five more days until Christmas Eve! Can you believe it? I'm so excited to share this post with you today because if you want Santa to stop at your house this year, you're going to need this Magic Reindeer Food!

The Magic Reindeer Food recipe I'm sharing today is a combination of oatmeal and different kinds of edible sanding sugars and nonpareils.

It is said that if you sprinkle this in front of your home (on your yard or around your front door) on Christmas Eve night, the sparkle of the sugars and the smell of the oatmeal will guide Rudolph and the rest of the reindeer right to your door. Just like cookies are to Santa, magic reindeer food is considered a treat for the reindeer. They can spot it from MILES away!

    The instructions are as follows:

Sprinkle on your lawn at night,
The moon will make it sparkle bright.
As Santa's reindeer fly and roam,
This food will guide them to your home.

So if you want to make sure Santa makes a stop at your house this year, grab the kiddos and/or the grandkids and let's start preparing for Christmas Eve!

    Making Magic Reindeer Food

To make Magic Reindeer Food, you'll need the following:

    • Sandwich baggie
    • ¾ cup dry oats
    • 3-4 tablespoons sprinkles ( I used a combination of sanding sugar and nonpareils)
    • Magic Reindeer Food printable bag topper
    • Stapler (with staples, of course)

Just take a look at this gorgeous sanding sugar. Oh, the sparkle! My daughter, Cora, can hardly wait to sprinkle this on the lawn!

Downloading the Free Printable Bag Topper

Go ahead and download the printable topper and print it out.

Here are some tips to ensure a good fit:

    • Make sure your print settings in the Print screen are set at 100%.
    • Trim the blue border off entirely when cutting the printable out (you'll want to cut as close to the red stripes as possible.

Place the topper over the sealed opening of the baggie.

Staple the topper onto the baggie in each corner of the bag like I'm showing above.

The sprinkles tend to sink to the bottom of the bag, so it's always a good idea to shake and flip the bag around a couple times before sprinkling it on the lawn.
