You guys!! I just finished school supply shopping this week for the kids! I really don't like the idea of the retail stores replacing all of the summer stuff with school supplies, but what ya' gonna' do?
As I walked up and down the aisles, I started getting pretty excited, though. This is the time of year I stock up on cool college-ruled notebooks I use for journaling, writing lists and brainstorming all of my ideas. I'm a bit of a notebook hoarder to be perfectly honest. I also love pens and journals. Is it just me?
So, when I'm not dreaming about notebooks and pens, I'm dreaming about slush!! And, today we're making Mermaid Slush! I'm about as addicted to slush as I am to school supplies.
I have a ton of yummy slush recipes here on the blog!
Slush Recipes
Blue Raspberry Lemonade Jell-O Slush
You get the idea! This Mermaid Slush is made with three different kinds of Gatorade, food coloring, ice and sugar. Are you ready to get started?
Layering the Drink
Break out your blender and start mixing up the green Gatorade, sugar and ice cubes. I used some food coloring just to give the colors a bit more pizzazz. Do people use that word any more? Pizzazz. Abracadabra. Hmmm. Let's move on.
Pour that layer into your glass and RINSE OUT YOUR BLENDER. Very important tip or the colors will start mixing before they should.
Next start on the blue layer - and then the purple.
After all of that blending (just kidding - it really doesn't take that long), this, my friends, is the finished Mermaid Slush. Isn't it pretty? Icy, bright and KID-FRIENDLY!
I leave my slushies a little chunkier in the summer so they take longer to melt when the kids are enjoying these outside.
Looks pretty refreshing, huh? Enjoy one of these before the summer is over, and make sure to get to the store to stock up on those notebooks and pens if you're as crazy about supplies as I am!

Notes
- Layering Technique: To achieve the desired mermaid-like effect, carefully layer the different colored slush mixtures in the glass. Start with the green mixture, followed by the blue, and finally the purple. Pour each layer slowly and gently to avoid mixing the colors too much. This creates a visually stunning gradient effect, reminiscent of ocean hues.
- Chilling Time: After pouring each layer into the glass, place it in the freezer for about 10 minutes to partially set. This helps to maintain the separation between the layers and prevents them from blending. Be cautious not to freeze the layers solid, as the slush should remain semi-frozen for the best texture.
- Balancing Flavors: Adjust the amount of sugar according to your taste preferences and the sweetness of the Gatorade flavors. Some flavors may be sweeter than others, so tasting the mixture before blending can help you determine if additional sugar is needed. Additionally, you can customize the intensity of the colors by adjusting the amount of food coloring used for each layer. Experiment with different shades to create your ideal mermaid-inspired slush.
