Oh man! Is anyone else feeling like they need a little "detox" after the holidays? I'll be the first to admit I ate my fair share of Christmas cookies and treats the past few weeks and now, it's time to get back to some healthier eating.
Today I'm sharing a recipe for preparing one of my favorite veggies. I enjoy raw and roasted carrots but I LOVE air fried carrots. The slight char, the sweetness, the full-on flavor - there really isn't anything better.
These carrot fries made in the air fryer will make you feel like you're "cheating," but you're not! They're actually healthier than sweet potato fries!
HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER CARROT FRIES
To make these sweet carrot fries, you'll need:
- Carrots
- Olive oil
- Garlic cloves
- Grated Parmesan cheese
- Panko bread crumbs
- Salt & pepper
For the spicy mayo dip, you'll need:
- Mayonnaise
- Garlic clove
- Lemon juice
- Cayenne pepper
Ready to make some carrot fries? Then grab your *air fryer and let's go!
*Check out the notes section of the recipe card for oven instructions if you don't have an air fryer.😉
Start by cutting the ends off of the cleaned and peeled carrots. Then, the carrots in half and slice each half down the middle lengthwise.
From each half you should get about 3-4 carrot fries.
Combine the carrots, olive oil, garlic, cheese, bread crumbs, salt and pepper in a large mixing bowl.
Make sure the carrots are evenly coated and transfer them to your greased air fryer basket.
Air fry at 350º Fahrenheit for 15 minutes, tossing carrots to mix every 5 minutes.
While the carrots are in the air fryer, you can whip up the spicy mayo dipping sauce. Add the mayonnaise, garlic, lemon juice and cayenne pepper to a small bowl and mix to combine.
That's it! Your sauce is ready!
When the carrots are ready they'll be both tender and crispy. You'll be able to easily stab them with a fork and there will be a crispiness to them but they won't "crunch." If that makes sense? 🤷♀️
Grab your dipping sauce (or not) and let's start devouring this "non" guilty pleasure. Believe me, these carrot fries can be addicting. Make more than you think you will eat. You'll be glad you did!
WHAT DO CARROT FRIES TASTE LIKE?
Carrot fries closely resemble sweet potato fries - they are sweet (especially as the sugars in the carrots caramelize), tender on the inside and crispy on the outside.
The parmesan coating in this particular recipe gives them a slightly salty flavor.
ARE CARROT FRIES GOOD FOR YOU?
Well, yes they are! When compared to sweet potato fries, they're actually much healthier. A pound of carrots has less than half the calories AND carbs than a pound of sweet potatoes.
WHAT OTHER VEGGIES COULD I USE WITH THIS RECIPE?
If you want to try something other than carrots, sweet potatoes, zucchini or even parsnips are a few other options you could try. Parsnips will provide a more "spiced" sweetness than carrots.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DIP CARROT FRIES IN?
To be honest, the majority of the time I don't dip them in anything at all. They're delicious all on their own. I used a spicy mayo dip when I made this batch of carrot fries, but you could use any of the following:
- Ranch dressing
- Aioli
- Cinnamon honey butter
- Sriracha sauce
- Yogurt dipping sauce
- Dill dip
- And more!
